Merry Christmas, Gesëende Kersfees & Jabulela Ukhisimusi from South Africa
In a country where diversity is cherished, Christmas takes on many different identities. One of the key characteristics of a South African Christmas is the opportunity to spend it with family and friends around swimming pools and on the variety of beaches. With summer at its peak during the festive season most celebrations take place outside in the hot South African sun. Braais are the traditional meal of choice while many families have had their traditions influenced by the USA and the UK. A variety of ethnic groups also attend church camps in their homelands where traditional meals of pap (maize porridge), moroga (spinach and onion), goat meat and beef are enjoyed.
